We are so excited to bring back The Fabric of Jenkintown! This evening is a celebration of the diversity of the ancestry, heritage & languages of our school community. We will begin with a tour around the world, visiting our neighbors and classmates as they represent their families at tables in the gym. Then we will make our way onto the field to participate in a huge drum circle led by the amazing team at RhythmetriX, who is returning this year!
Join us on Thursday, April 23, 2026, to celebrate the ancestral heritage and diversity of our student and school community at The Fabric of Jenkintown! In collaboration with you, the families of JES, our children will each get a passport and journey around the world, visiting countries & cultures that are represented at decorated stations. This is an opportunity for our children to learn about different cultures and languages, and to see their family’s ancestry, heritage and language represented & celebrated. Then we will move out onto the field, where RhythmetriX is returning to lead us in a drum circle! Carminati Creamery will even bring their delicious Italian gelato to sell, and we are working on getting a couple of food trucks. Don’t miss this unforgettable night!
Families can sign up to participate and share about different locations across the globe, from US states to countries and continents. At our inaugural event last year, we had over a dozen cultures represented. We would love for families to return, and for new families to join! Your family can choose a location from which you are proud to have ancestry, where the heritage is celebrated in your home; it can be a place that you are just beginning to learn about, or a place that you are interested in learning and sharing about. You certainly don’t need to be an expert to share about your region. Maybe this is an opportunity for your family to learn more about a piece of your heritage that you haven’t explored yet. Diversity is what makes this collaboration interesting and exciting!
Several families can sign up for the same place, and you can work together or separately. Where does your family feel ties to? We’d love to learn about it.
If you’re wondering what to bring to decorate your table, think of anything that tells us about your particular location. Here are some ideas- flags, posters, books, snacks/foods, games/toys, photos, jewelry, clothing, textiles, souvenirs, artifacts, or recipes. You can share about the languages, traditions, customs, holidays, videos, and role models that have ancestry there too.
By celebrating our “Fabric” today, we are stitching together a Jenkintown community of respect, belonging and empathy for the next generation.
Last year, we had an incredible & diverse representation of over a dozen different countries and cultures. We would love to see some new families join some returning families this year!
